Location ...

East of the Andean mountain range lies the steamy rainforests of Ecuador's slice of the Amazon Basin, known as the Oriente. With an amazing diversity of flora and fauna, the Oriente occupies half the country but is home to less than 5 percent of the people. The tropical jungle, however, is more accessible than you might imagine and accommodations are probably more civilized than you would expect.

Regular flights from Quito to Coca city allow you to experience a virgin jungle in pristine condition, with thousands of species of orchid, plus sloths, monkeys, macaws, and pink river dolphins. And throughout this hot, sticky paradise are dozens of native tribes, retaining ancient customs despite the intrusion of outsiders.

The Yarina Eco Lodge is located aprox. 25 Km down the NAPO river, from Puerto Francisco de Orellana (El Coca). Our motor boat canoes take about one hour of fluvial navigation down the Napo river to reach the Yarina Eco-lodge.

Yarina Eco Lodge, is a privately owned rainforest reserve (550 has), located near the Yasuni National Park.

Yarina Eco Lodge

It is in a cultural reserved zone that is set aside for indigenous Quichuas and amazonian peoples all in a primary upper rainforest.

Ecosystem

The Amazonas ecosystem, particularly its tropical rain forest, is considered to be one of the richest and most complex communities of plant and animal life in the world. The region is characterized by huge and diverse amounts of flora and fauna with extraordinary variations in their habitats and micro habitats.

In the jungle of the Upper Amazon 100 species of trees per acre have been recorded. In Central America, only up to 40 species per acre have been discovered. In the temperate forests of North America and Europe, rarely more than 20 different species exist per acre.

The Amazon's rivers, lakes, streams and marshlands support over 600 species of fish and more than 250 species of amphibians and reptiles. The lagoons of the Napo and Aguarico River basins are home to colonies of two species of caimans that grow to over 13 feet in length.
